I love foreign films, and I do consider British films foreign because even in a place like Portland, sometimes the Brit-films don't make it to the theatres, when American crap overflows the box office (Zohan... puhlease).
So, I just saw Inglorious Basterds, and I have to say I was impressed, even if I covered my eyes for the gore and shoot-outs. It was American made I know but the french countryside cinematography reminded me of La Regle du Jeu by Jean Renoir; 1939. So here is a list of my top 10 favourite foreign films.
12. Les Enfants du Paradis (Marcel Carne; 1945)
11. Det sjunde inseglet or the Seventh Seal (Ingmar Bergman; 1958)
10. Dil Se (Mani Ratnam; 1998)
9. Les Invasions Barbares or the Barbarian Invasions(Denys Arcand; 2003)
8. La Vita e Bella or Life Is Beautiful (Roberto Benigni; 1997)
7. The Wind that Shakes the Barley (Ken Loach; 2006)
6. Ladi Di Biciclette or The bicycle Thieves (Vittorio De Sica; 1948)
5. Das Leben der Anderen or The Lives of Others(Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck; 2006)
4. Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain or Amelie(Jean-Pierre Jeunet; 2001)
3. El Laberinto Del Fauno or Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo del Toro; 2006)
2. La Dolce Vita (Federico Fellini; 1960)
1. Il Buono, Il brutto, Il Cattivo or The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Sergio Leone; 1966)
Hope you enjoy my picks. I didn't include summaries about each because [1] I want you all to watch them for yourselves and [2] it's 2 am and I am not entirely sure why I am still awake.
On that note, happy viewing! Good night and good luck.

In ignorance I await my own surprise

I love quotes. They articulate thoughts in a sentence or less, something I cannot do, even if I tried. Besides I read enough to quote lines that are actually relevant. Which brings me to my point... as I'm sure you, my blog followers or whatever you are technically called, know that I will be shipping myself to London in less than a month. And I am completely ignorant of what awaits me.
Which is why I am starting a blog. If I'm going to be surprised I'd like to be surprised with you. So here hoping to a great summer for you and me.
